Is it spring yet? Yes, I saw a Robin and some Red-Winged blackbirds this week. A beautiful flock of Mergansers landed on our pond yesterday and were gone this morning. Another arbiter of Spring is the annual re-opening of the Lakeland Art Association Gallery.
This organization has been working diligently to bring fine art and art education to this community for 52 years. Some of our areas’ most successful and wonderful artists have been associated with Lakeland Art Association over the years. Many new events and upcoming activities are in the works for this year including some exceptional surprises for the art community of this area. Stay tuned for the unveiling of these new events as they unfold.
The Gallery itself, now located an easy drive for Whitley, Wabash, Elkhart, and Kosciusko County residents, is on SR 13 in the antique and art corridor of Pierceton. Coming up in April is a creative new fund-raiser titled “Small but Mighty” in which all works will be 12 inches or under. This will be accompanied all month long with silent auction bids on any piece of your choosing! Each artist will determine a minimum bid they will accept for the piece.
All funds collected above that bid will be given as a donation to the Lakeland Art Association for their many community projects. Final bids may be made at an art reception which will be held from 2 p.m. 4 p.m Sunday, April 26, at the gallery. Artists may submit their work on Wednesday April 1 and Thursday, April 2, at the Gallery, 107 N. First St., Pierceton. What a fun way to find a great bargain and help both an area artist and this worthy organization at the same time.
A “Bob Ross Style” workshop by Jackie Bauer from Brushworks will be held from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, April 4. The cost of $40 covers the class, all supplies, and is guaranteed to be fun. Call LAA at (574) 594-9950 by March 30 to register. Class will be held off premise. Call for details and location.
“Kids’ Class” will be held Saturday, April 18, at the LAA gallery. Ages 10-14 will pay a $25 fee and all supplies will be provided for this fun class being held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Limited seating means try to register before the Monday, April 13 deadline to assure a space in the class which is sure to be popular.
