Kosciusko County students are encouraged to “be part of a gallery of art” by entering the 2016 calendar art contest sponsored by Indiana’s electric cooperatives, including Kosciusko REMC. The contest deadline is Friday, March 20.
The 2016 contest is now under way and open to all Indiana students. The winning works will be published in a 2016 wall calendar published in early autumn. The first place “Artist of the Month will be selected and receive $200. Up to nine additional artists will be selected for honorable mention awards and receive $50. An “Artist of the Year” will also be selected from the first place winners and will receive an additional $100.
The contest assigns a month to each grade: first graders depict January; second graders have February; third graders do March; and so on. High school seniors finish the calendar by depicting December. Kindergartners are assigned the cover art which can depict any season, subject or event. The honorable mentions are selected for inclusion in a special four-page section in the back of the calendar.
In addition, the calendar and contest project for 2016 has been endorsed by the Indiana Bicentennial Commission as a legacy project of the state’s 200th birthday. As such, this contest adds a slight change. Instead of any subject relating to the given month or season, the committee is looking for that criteria plus includes an Indiana aspect such as landscape, landmark, famous Hoosier or Indiana historical event.
