Leaders from the Fort Wayne Cultural District announced a drafted Platform for Action yesterday during a “Pop UP” Cultural District event in the Arts United Center.

The drafted Platform for Action highlights eight initiatives: public market, public art, culinary incubator, creative business incubator, creative storefront development, activity, connectivity and telling our story.

The public is asked to submit feedback about the initiatives through a short online survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/HKRGFYQ. Community feedback will be used to finalize the Platform for Action by October.

“Actively involving community members in our growth is essential,” said Jim Sparrow, executive director of Arts United. “We are committed to creating the Downtown experience that residents and business owners in our region demand and that visitors and potential employees seek out.”

The finalized Platform for Action will be implemented by the four managing partners of the Fort Wayne Cultural District and other partners over the next 3-5 years. The Fort Wayne Cultural District is managed by the City of Fort Wayne, Arts United of Greater Fort Wayne, Visit Fort Wayne and Downtown Improvement District. The advisory council also includes representatives of Greater Fort Wayne, Inc., University of Saint Francis, Fort Wayne Museum of Art and One Lucky Guitar.

City of Fort Wayne Deputy Director Mark Becker commented, “Downtown Fort Wayne’s arts and cultural resources bring visitors to our region, spur economic development and strengthen Fort Wayne’s identity. The Cultural District collaboration builds on the positive momentum of several forthcoming projects and helps to ensure their success in the long term.”

The Fort Wayne Cultural District invites all people to “Experience Art, Discover Downtown.” The mission of the Fort Wayne Cultural District is to mobilize our artistic, cultural and social capital to create a vibrant urban core.
